New Opportunity! Small Groups Pastor, Midwest US

A growing church in the Midwest is searching for a Small Groups Pastor to provide the ongoing vision, direction and implementation strategy for embracing people as they continue to transition from an “attractional” Sunday model with multitudes of diverse growth, fellowship and service opportunities to a strategic “Simple Church” model.

If that got your attention, read on. Here is the job description in summary:

1.    Greatly expand the number, style, diversity, location and nature of small groups to every conceivable reason for a group to exist.  Create a sustainable structure and leadership training that emphasizes a core component of “doing life together through prayer and sharing” as the single common ingredient of any group.

2.    Elevate the critical nature of being in community as the center point of the disciple journey encouraging people to find daily “God Encounter” moments while moving them to “Engaging Culture”, both personally and as a group.

3.    Help lead the transition of existing ministries that function primarily as large event-driven programs into a workable “smaller community” format.

More detailed information is available to qualified candidates after discussion with The Shepherd’s Staff.

Who is a qualified candidate?

Experience:   A minimum of 5 years proven experience in this field in a church of similar size (1,000+).   Individuals without this will not be considered.  Your experience and its success will be demonstrated by glowing reference reports and may include a site visit to your current ministry.

A thorough understanding of the “Simple Church” model is essential. Actual experience with this model will be a major advantage.

Education: A Bachelor Degree in a field directly related to this area of ministry is essential.  A seminary education is preferred but will not be required for the right person who has demonstrated, provable, successful experience.

If your desire, experience and education match, please let us know of your interest confidentially by clicking on “inquire.” You will have an opportunity to upload your resume, so that we can consider your experience in light of the requirements for the position. If you have any difficulties with the inquiry or uploading process, please email
